What is Entyvio and What is it Used For?
Entyvio contains the active substance vedolizumab. Vedolizumab belongs to a group of biologic medicines called monoclonal antibodies.1
Biologic medicines are made through a process that involves living organisms rather than a chemical process and have been extensively studied and accepted throughout medicine as a suitable way to treat medical conditions.
Entyvio is used to treat the signs and symptoms in adults of:1
- moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis
- moderately to severely active Crohn’s disease
How Does Your Medication Work?
Vedolizumab blocks a protein on the surface of white blood cells that get into the gut and cause inflammation in ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. By doing this, the amount of inflammation is reduced.1
What is the difference between Entyvio subcutaneous (SC) and Entyvio intravenous (IV) infusion?
It is the same medicine, with the same active ingredient. Both forms of Entyvio have been proven to help your gut feel better.1 The main difference between the two forms is the way the medicine gets into your body. Intravenous means it goes through a drip in one of the veins in your arm (intravenous infusion). Subcutaneous means it goes into tissue under the skin (subcutaneous injection).1,2
